Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User") and the operators of ComfyTex ("we", "us", or "our") governing your access to and use of the ComfyTex service.
ComfyTex is operated in accordance with the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR") of the People's Republic of China.
By registering an account, accessing the service, or submitting any document for conversion, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
If you are using ComfyTex on behalf of an organisation, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
2. About the Service
ComfyTex provides an AI-assisted document conversion service that transforms Markdown documents into LaTeX source files using a multi-stage language model pipeline (Overviewer → Checker → Assembly).
3. Account Registration & Security
To access the full service you must register an account. By registering, you agree to:
- Provide a valid, accessible email address and accurate registration information.
- Keep your account credentials confidential. You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you become aware of any unauthorised access to your account.
- Maintain one account per individual. Account sharing, reselling, or sublicensing is prohibited.
4. Acceptable Use
- Converting your own academic, research, technical, or professional documents.
- Commercial use by individual subscribers for their own documents.
- Evaluating the service using the Demo feature.
- Automated bulk submission via bots or scripts that circumvent or exceed rate limits.
- Attempting to reverse-engineer, probe, or extract system prompts, LLM configurations, or pipeline internals.
- Submitting content designed to manipulate or cause unintended behaviour in the AI pipeline (prompt injection, jailbreaking).
- Uploading content that infringes any third-party copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
- Creating multiple accounts to circumvent per-account rate limits or quotas.
- Reselling, sublicensing, or building derivative products that re-expose the service to third parties without authorisation.
- Submitting content that violates applicable laws of the HKSAR or any other jurisdiction.
5. Document Content & AI Processing
You retain full ownership of and all intellectual property rights in the documents you upload and the LaTeX output generated from them. ComfyTex claims no rights in your content.
By submitting a document, you grant ComfyTex a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable licence to: (a) process your document through the conversion pipeline; (b) transmit the document's text to third-party LLM APIs as necessary for processing; and (c) store the resulting output files on our servers until the job is purged. This licence terminates automatically when the job is purged or your account is deleted.
You expressly acknowledge that the full text of your uploaded document will be sent to third-party AI API providers (currently DeepSeek and/or Qwen) for processing. Their respective terms of service and data policies apply to that transmission.
ComfyTex does not use your document content to train any AI model. We cannot guarantee how DeepSeek/Qwen handle submitted data at the API level. Please review their current policies before submitting sensitive content.
ComfyTex is not responsible for any service interruption, data breach, policy change, or other failure on the part of DeepSeek, Qwen, or any other third-party AI API provider used in the pipeline. Our liability is limited to the obligations expressly stated in these Terms.
Do not submit documents containing:
- Personally identifiable information (PII) of third parties.
- Confidential business information or trade secrets.
- Credentials, API keys, passwords, or other security-sensitive data.
- Content subject to a non-disclosure agreement without authorisation from the disclosing party.
- Content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
AI-generated LaTeX output is provided on a best-effort basis. It is not guaranteed to compile without errors, to be structurally complete, or to meet the requirements of any specific journal, institution, or LaTeX distribution. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying the output before any professional, academic, or commercial use.
By submitting content you warrant that: (a) you own it or hold sufficient rights to submit it for processing; and (b) the submission does not violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights.
6. Pricing & Subscriptions
- Current pricing: The service is provided free of charge during the current phase of operation. All registered users have access to the conversion pipeline subject to the rate limits described in Section 7.
- Future paid plans: We may introduce paid subscription plans or usage-based pricing in the future. If and when we do, we will clearly describe the terms and pricing before you are charged.
- No auto-enrollment: Continued use of the free tier after a paid tier is introduced does not constitute agreement to any paid plan. Opting into a paid plan requires an affirmative action on your part.
7. Service Limits & Quotas
8. Job Data & File Retention
- Output files: Retained on our servers until the job transitions to the "purged" state. Once purged, associated files are permanently and irrecoverably deleted. We do not guarantee any minimum retention period.
- Download responsibility: You are solely responsible for downloading your converted output files before they are purged. ComfyTex is not liable for loss of output files due to purging.
- Job history metadata: Job records (status, timestamps, token usage) are retained in your account history indefinitely. Purged jobs remain visible in the history as non-downloadable entries.
- No backup guarantee: ComfyTex does not maintain backups of user-uploaded source documents after conversion is complete. Retain your original Markdown files.
9. Intellectual Property
The ComfyTex website, application code, user interface design, documentation, and branding (including the "ComfyTex" name and "C" logo mark) are the exclusive property of ComfyTex and its operators, protected by applicable intellectual property laws of the HKSAR and internationally. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right in the ComfyTex platform itself.
You retain full ownership of all documents you upload and all LaTeX output files generated from your documents. ComfyTex does not claim any intellectual property rights in your content or outputs.
Any feedback, bug reports, suggestions, or feature requests you voluntarily provide may be freely used by ComfyTex to improve the service, without any obligation, compensation, or attribution to you.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
As-Is / As-Available Disclaimer
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE LAWS OF THE HKSAR.
ComfyTex specifically does not warrant:
- That the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
- That LaTeX output will compile without errors in any specific LaTeX distribution or environment.
- The accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated content.
- That the service will meet your specific academic, professional, or publication requirements.
- That data will not be lost — you are responsible for maintaining local copies of your source documents.
11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE LAWS OF THE HKSAR, COMFYTEX AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF REVENUE, LOSS OF BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, OR REPUTATIONAL DAMAGE, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
COMFYTEX'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO COMFYTEX IN THE THREE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) HKD 100.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Hong Kong law.
12. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Upon termination, your access to the service will cease and your personal data will be handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your account without prior notice if: (a) you breach any provision of these Terms; (b) we are required to do so by applicable law or a competent authority; (c) we decide to discontinue the service; or (d) your account has been inactive for an extended period.
Upon termination: your licence to use the service ends immediately; any pending or running jobs may be cancelled; access to your job history and output files will cease. Sections 5.8, 9, 10, 11, and 13 of these Terms survive termination.
13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising from them (including non-contractual disputes or claims) are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the HKSAR, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
Each party irrevocably submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the HKSAR for the resolution of any dispute arising under or in connection with these Terms.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you have under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486, Laws of Hong Kong) ("PDPO"). If you are a data subject in Hong Kong, you retain all rights afforded to you under the PDPO, including the right to request access to and correction of your personal data. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for details.
Before initiating any formal legal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and allow at least 30 days for a good-faith attempt to resolve the dispute informally.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ComfyTex. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force. Failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver. These Terms are provided in English; in the event of any conflict with a translation, the English version prevails.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. When we make changes, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Your continued use of the service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
For material changes — such as changes to the governing law clause, liability cap, or data processing terms — we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email in advance of the changes taking effect.
